Why South Africa traders choose FundedFast

Crypto and PayPal payouts work around SARB exchange-control friction. Our $49 2-phase entry is fair on price, and the fee comes back on your first payout, as it does at every firm on this list except E8 Funding. There's no 30-day countdown telling you when to trade. Evaluations run on your schedule. JSE-adjacent hours with full access to the London session make SA timezone ideal for FundedFast rules. If you're comparing the best prop firms in South Africa and want to test our rules without committing serious capital, the $5K 2-Phase challenge is $49 and comes back on your first withdrawal.

Taxes on funded trader payouts in South Africa

Funded trader payouts are typically treated as gross income under SARS rules (section 1 of the Income Tax Act). Rates depend on total annual income bracket. If trading is a regular, profit-making activity, it may also qualify as a trade. Consult a tax practitioner before filing.

General guidance only. Confirm with a local tax advisor before filing.

Are prop firm payouts subject to SARB exchange controls in South Africa?

South African traders can legally receive FundedFast payouts because the South African Reserve Bank's exchange-control framework governs outflows of capital, not inflows from international service contracts. Funded-account payouts are foreign trade income, not capital movement, so they sit outside the outflow-allowance rules that apply to money leaving South Africa, and SARB's current-vs-capital transfer distinction means they do not require SARS AIT PIN approval.

Receiving isn't paperwork-free, though. Under SARB's Currency and Exchanges Guidelines for Individuals (Circular 1/2026, effective 7 January 2026), your bank reports every inbound foreign-exchange transaction to the Reserve Bank automatically regardless of amount, and for any single inward payment of R50,000 or more you sign an integrated form confirming the details, a threshold a typical funded-account payout will usually reach. Only a licensed South African bank (an Authorised Dealer) may process the wire, which happens automatically as part of any SWIFT transfer into an SA account.

Do prop firm payouts use my R2 million Single Discretionary Allowance?

No. As of 8 April 2026, the Single Discretionary Allowance increased from R1 million to R2 million per adult per calendar year, with the combined SDA plus Foreign Investment Allowance cap rising to R12 million. But funded-account payouts received from FundedFast are inflows, not outflows, so they do not count against either limit.

What changed in the 2026 South Africa budget

Treasury announced the increase in the February 2026 budget; it took effect on 8 April 2026. The Foreign Investment Allowance remains at R10 million per year (subject to a SARS Tax Compliance Status PIN). The combined R12 million figure refers to a trader doing both at once. For prop firm income recipients, the practical impact is that you have more flexibility to fund challenge fees and to send other money abroad without affecting your ability to receive payouts.

Frequently asked questions for traders in South Africa

Can South African residents use FundedFast?

Yes. South African traders can purchase any challenge, trade the evaluation, and receive payouts once funded. KYC is a standard video verification within 7 days of your first payout request. SA ID or passport works.

How are South African payouts handled?

Payouts are issued in USD or EUR via SWIFT bank transfer, cryptocurrency, or PayPal. ZAR is not a payout currency. Most South African traders convert via their bank or a service like Shyft on arrival.

Are prop trading profits taxable in South Africa?

Yes. Payouts are generally treated as gross income under the Income Tax Act and must be declared on your annual SARS return. Rates follow your overall income bracket. Consult a registered tax practitioner. Treatment can vary depending on whether SARS classifies your activity as a trade.

Is FundedFast regulated by the FSCA?

No. FundedFast is not licensed by the FSCA. FSCA licensing applies to financial service providers, brokers and advisers. What we sell is an educational simulated challenge on a demo account: we do not hold or manage client funds, execute trades on your behalf, or give financial advice. Because we are not FSCA-licensed, you have no recourse to the FSCA and none of the protections that licensing provides apply to your purchase.

Can I trade South African stocks or the JSE Top 40?

No. FundedFast offers global forex, major indices (US500, NAS100, DAX, UK100), commodities and crypto via MatchTrader. JSE-listed equities and the JSE Top 40 are not available.

How do I get a prop firm account in South Africa?

Choose an evaluation size (FundedFast challenges start at $49, refunded on your first payout), pass the profit target within the 5% daily and 10% maximum drawdown rules (there is no time limit), and you receive a simulated funded account with an 80% profit share by default (90% is a paid checkout add-on on $50K+ One-Phase and $100K+ Two-Phase accounts), scaling up to $400K. Payouts reach South African traders in USD or EUR via crypto (USDT/USDC), SWIFT, or PayPal. Confirm your own reporting obligations with your bank or a South African tax adviser before receiving funds from abroad.

How does SARS tax FundedFast payouts in 2026?

SARS taxes funded-account payouts as foreign trade income at the trader's marginal Personal Income Tax rate, with marginal rates running up to 45%. Income is declared on the standard ITR12 return as foreign trade income. No separate revenue/expense schedule is required for occasional traders. Habitual traders running prop trading as a registered business may instead use the foreign-source business income classification. Consult a tax practitioner familiar with foreign-source income before filing.
